Charlotte’s JazzArts Initiative (JAI) is proud to announce the launch of a new monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater. Beginning Tuesday, April 16, JAI will bring live jazz to the The Stage Door Theater, part of Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, at the corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte.
The series will take place on the third Tuesday of each month and feature one 6:00PM set as the Charlotte region’s most gifted musicians recreate the music of jazz masters like Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Billie Holiday. The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater will provide a casual and intimate setting with tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear. For the series opener, jazz pianist Chad Lawson plays the music of Bill Evans on April 16; then acclaimed trumpeter Mark Rapp plays the music of Miles Davis on May 21.
“This will be a marvelous way to unwind after work and enjoy classic jazz with friends and co-workers,” says Lonnie Davis, executive director of Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative. “We are so thrilled to be working with Blumenthal Performing Arts to offer Charlotte such an exquisite opportunity of music and culture. We encourage everyone to drop in for a drink and hear some of the best jazz the local and regional scene has to offer.”
