They can become detached and cause a choking hazard if swallowed, WATCH says.WATCH has worked to educate the public about the dangers of certain toys since 1968. The worst-toys list has been published since 1973.In response to the release of the WATCH list, the Toy Industry Association, Inc., which represents toy manufacturers, also released a statement of its own saying toy safety is a top priority for toy manufacturers. The group said the U.S. government also closely monitors the safety of toys produced in the United States, and many of the toys on lists like those put out by consumer groups like WATCH do meet U.S. product safety standards. The TIA said if also offers an online "Toy Safety Hotline" at www.toyhotline.com.Additional information can be found on the CPSC Web site: www.cpsc.gov and information on product recalls at Recalls.gov.
