The video went viral this week when Cody Wilson fired the gun for the first time.
After the blueprints were downloaded over 100,000 times the State Department made the decision to take them down.
Wilson, who is a law student at the University of Texas, says he will follow the order while the feds go a step further and look into whether the blueprints violate arms-trafficking laws.
Wilson told Forbes “This is the conversation I want. Is this a workable regulatory regime? Can there be defense trade control in the era of the Internet and 3D printing?”
Jessica Roy of BetaBeat points out “since this is the Internet, the files are already all over the web, even though Mr. Wilson complied with the takedown."
