After a successful Week 1 to the 2013 campaign, the Crimson Tide received some excellent news regarding the future of the program with the verbal commitment of West Monroe, LA native Cameron Robinson. He is the second Monroe-area recruit to announce in recent days after 4-star WR Cameron Sims committed on August 24.
By far the nation's top offensive lineman, Robinson is rated as the first, second, or third overall player by the four recruiting services. He bolsters what is already turning into a spectacular recruiting class for Coach Nick Saban.
CamRob, as some fans have taken to calling him, has great size (6-5/330) and the speed for pulling plays as well as getting down field on screen plays. He is a strong and physical blocker.
Robinson, 5-star RB Leonard Fournette, and 4-star safety Laurence Jones were recently in Tuscaloosa (see photo above) to take in the Tide's scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Robinson had several offers but ultimately chose Alabama over LSU. Tide staff hopes that his Louisiana buddies jump on board as well.
Originally, Robinson had planned to announce his commitment at the Under Armour All-American Game in January 2014. There is speculation that when his close friend Cameron Sims announced his verbal to Alabama that it might have spurred Robinson to go ahead and make his announcement today.
This brings us to Laurence Jones and 4-star safety Ronnie Clark. Jones is also from Monroe and friends with the two aforementioned Camerons. Clark used to live in Monroe before his family moved to Calera, Alabama but has remained close with the others. It is possible that Bama signs all four of these players.
Fournette is from New Orleans. While he is a friend and has the Tide as a finalist, I think he still lands at LSU.
Robinson becomes the 20th commitment and sixth offensive lineman of the Class of 2014 joining 4-stars Ross Pierschbacher, Viane Talamaivao, Dominick Jackson, JC Hassenauer, and 3-star Montel McBride. He could potentially enroll in January. There is already early talk that if Cyrus Kouandjio goes pro after this season as expected, Robinson could take over the left tackle spot in 2014. He is that good.
* FYI, Bama is taking back the name "Cam".
