Gators DT Dominique Easley never has a shortage of interesting opinions and he delivered a few of them today.
One of the most important topics he covered was the unusual pre-snap roll move against Tennessee. He said it gave him no advantage and that he just did it for fun.
It was fun. Look at it.
Here is a sample of what he had to say in today’s media session:
Do you think about having beaten Kentucky 26 straight times?
Easley: “No, it’s just the day of the game. There’s no last year, how many times we beat them. It’s just that game.”
How has the middle of the defense played since losing so many guys in the offseason?
Easley: “Well, I was always a fan of Antonio Morrison and Mike Taylor. I’ve been playing with Mike Taylor ever since the Under Armour game, so I always had confidence in him. Never a doubt in my mind.”
And at safety?
Easley: “We were young back there, but they’re getting it done. They understand the expectations and they’re living up to it.”
What’s the attitude of this defense?
Easley: “I mean, we just have fun. Every time we feel like we’re playing bad or we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing, we just have fun, we try to have fun.”
Did you reach out to Jeff Driskel at all since he broke his leg?
Easley: “I seen him yesterday. I gave him a … what do you call it?”
Easley: “I ain’t get that close. It is what it is. It’s life. You’ve just go through it and get over it.”
You did a bizarre, pre-snap roll move against Tennessee. What did the coaches say about it?
Easley: “Not to do it. Not to do it. They’re scared that the ball will be snapped while I’m rolling.”
That’s probably a legitimate concern.
And somehow you didn’t think of that beforehand?
Easley: “I mean, I thought about it, but I was gonna be able to get there.”
Where’d you pick that up?
Easley: “In practice every day. We do it in practice every day. Coach Lawing makes us do it on the shuffle board*. He makes us do that every day. He makes us seat roll and tackle every day. And I seen it on Friday Night Lights, too. I always wanted to do it when they roll and jump over people and stuff.”
[* - might not have heard him correctly]
Have you planned a touchdown dance just in case?
Easley: “We always say we’ll do certain stuff, but I just want to throw the ball to the stands. There’s no dance. It was gonna be a dance, but I just don’t know what it is.”
Tennessee must have though this would be the year they’d break their losing streak against you, right?
Easley: “Yeah, but it was a fail.”
You claim to not watch the NFL. So what do you do on Sundays?
Easley: “Play the game or just chill with my son or watch SpongeBob, Fairly Oddparents or go on Netflix and watch some Jackie Chan Adventures, whole nine yards.”
Do you like going to Kentucky?
Easley: “I don’t know. I just go there for the game and come back. I don’t get to experience it. I just play.”
Have you ever gone there for personal reasons?
Easley: “No. Uh-uh. I don’t think I’m going to Kentucky. Nah. No. Never. I like going back up north.”
Do you like any SEC towns?
Easley: “Me and the South don’t mix. Just don’t mix. If I don’t like to be there, I won’t be there.”
Do you know that you’re in the South right now?
Easley: “Do I know where I am? Florida. Do you know where you are?”
Florida’s in the South, but you don’t like the South?
Easley: “I have to be here.”
But you chose to be here.
Easley: “Ha. That’s what you wanna think.”
So Urban Meyer handcuffed you and dragged you down here?
Easley: “You ain’t gonna get that one out of me.”
You’ve lived here four years and not grown to love the South?
Easley: “Nah. I get food sent to me. I just can’t do it.”
You can’t eat the food here? It’s not like it’s a foreign country.
Easley: “It is to me.”
