You just have to love Greg Hardy. Even if you're not a Panthers fan, you have to appreciate what he brings to the table. One of those things is entertainment in the form of words, and this time is no different.
According to ESPN South blogger Pat Yasinskas, Greg Hardy has set a lofty goal for himself in 2013:
The defensive end for the Carolina Panthers was asked Tuesday if he had a goal for the number of sacks he’ll register this season.
"Fifty," Hardy said during a break between minicamp practices. "Why shoot low, right? If I’m going to shoot at it, I’m going to shoot at it with a 50 caliber. I’m going to shoot at a little bird with a 50-caliber bullet. That’s the goal for this year, 50 sacks, that’s where I’m at. That’s the goal, 50. You heard it first."
Yeah, that's not a typo. The Kraken wants to get 50 sacks. Let's keep in mind here that the all-time NFL record for sacks in a single season is 22.5, held by former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan since 2001.
I'm not saying there's no chance Hardy will get 50 sacks -- I'm not that stupid. I'm just saying that if he were to fall short by say, 35 or so, that we would still love him and want him to sign with the Panthers long term.
Even though 50 sacks is most likely unreachable, at least he's made a goal for himself. You can't blame him for a go big or go home attitude. There's nothing wrong with setting a lofty goal, even if he does fall short.
Then again, "All Time World Sack Champion Greg Hardy" does have a nice ring to it, don't you think?
