If you'd like to hear some classic pissed-off Spurrier, check out his post-game presser after today's game against UCF. The major theme of the presser was Spurrier's frustration with the continued struggles of the defense to do its part in putting opponents away. You can tell that he would have really enjoyed seeing his team close out a blowout win over UCF, and he was clearly disappointed with the play of the defensive backs late in the game, getting quite flustered while discussing the coverage breakdowns.
--Spurrier beasting Gene Sapakoff on whether Spurrier would have preferred to have passed the ball more. To be fair to Gene, though, I did feel that Spurrier refused to run the ball until it became clearly necessary. He seemed to arrogantly believed we'd be able to easily pass the ball on UCF, when our team strengths would suggest that we could more easily overpower the Knights than pass on them.
--A couple of players who earned Spurrier's praise were Damiere Byrd and Gerald Dixon. This might have been Byrd's best game. He didn't have any of his characteristic deep catches, but I think we all knew he could make big catches downfield. The question was whether he could be more versatile, and he showed that he could today. He started in place of the suspended Shaq Roland, and you'd have to imagine that with Shaq's struggles to prove his will to commit to the program, I'd imagine Byrd is slated for more playing time over the next few weeks. Dixon got some praise from Spurrier for his fumble recovery. I'm curious to see if he can get more playing time, too, over Chaz Sutton, who continues to struggle against the run.
