  • Charlotte has been been successful recently attracting large companies and businesses to relocate or expand as the Queen City becomes one of the most rapidly growing metropolitan areas in the nation. Check out 10 of the most recent.
  • March 7, 2013: MetLife Inc., a leading global life insurance and employee benefits company, plans to create more than 1,300 jobs in Charlotte and roughly the same number of jobs in Cary, totaling upwards of 2,600 jobs in the state by the end of 2015.
  • March 6, 2013: Otto Environmental Systems North America, Inc. will expand its Charlotte manufacturing plant, adding 32 new jobs and investing $7 million in new capital equipment. The jobs are projected to have an average wage of $38,179 plus benefits.
  • March 4, 2013: AREVA will relocate its North American headquarters to Charlotte and create additional engineering jobs. AREVA, a world-leading nuclear energy provider with global headquarters in Paris, plans to create 130 jobs over the next four years.
  • March 1, 2013: Rack Room Shoes, a privately-owned footwear retailer, will expand its corporate headquarters in Charlotte and relocate the headquarters of its subsidiary, Off Broadway Shoes, from Georgia to Charlotte. This expansion will enable the company to increase the number of retail stores and sales, specifically growing the Off Broadway brand over the next five years.
  • Feb. 20, 2013: Convergys, a business process outsourcing global leader in providing customer care, plans to create more than 1,600 jobs in Charlotte at its two facilities in southeast Charlotte and in the University City area. Convergys is spending $1.8 million to renovate its existing 8600 McAlpine Park Drive facility.
  • Feb. 1, 2013: InVue Security Products Inc., a security firm focusing on retail theft, will expand its global headquarters in Charlotte. The company plans to create 70 jobs with an average salary of $83,000 and invest $11 million by the end of 2017.
  • Dec. 13, 2012: JELD-WEN will locate its North American headquarters in Charlotte. JELD-WEN, inc., a manufacturer of windows and doors with global headquarters in Klamath Falls, Ore., plans to create 142 jobs and $2 million in investment in the next two years.
  • June 13, 2012: United Technologies Corporation (UTC), a global provider of high-technology products and services for the aerospace and building systems industries, plans to place its combined Aerospace Systems headquarters in Charlotte following the completion of its acquisition of Goodrich Corporation. The move will create 325 new high-paying UTC jobs in Charlotte. The jobs cover a wide range of functions, including executive teams, engineering, operations, supply chain, quality control, customer service, business development and strategy.
  • Aug. 22, 2011: Lime Energy, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, announced the relocation of its headquarters from Chicago to Huntersville, NC. The company consolidated its IT, accounting and engineering functions along with corporate management with the move.
  • Nov. 29, 2011: Chiquita Brands International, Inc. moved their global headquarters from Cincinnati to Charlotte in 2012. Chiquita, a Fortune 1000 company, planned to create more than 400 jobs with an average wage of over $106,000 and planned to invest $14.1 million in its new Charlotte headquarters facility over the next 5 years. The company is located in the NASCAR Plaza building in uptown Charlotte.
