Gyrotonics -- Fitness For Health

Posted: 10:33 am EDT August 6, 2004

Exercise and a healthy diet build fitness and keep the body in prime shape. Health experts currently recommend accumulating at least 30 minutes of physical activity/day on most days of the week. Yet, surveys show only about 22 percent of American adults participate in sustained physical activity 5 days a week. About 25 percent of adults get no regular physical activity at all.

Exercise helps control weight, build strong bones and muscles, increase flexibility and enable the heart and lungs to work more efficiently. Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of many chronic diseases, like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and colon cancer. Studies also show exercise can boost mood and may reduce the risk of depression, anxiety and stress.

Gyrotonic® Training
There are many different types of exercise programs. One technique that's catching on is called Gyrotonic® training. It combines the elements of flexibility found in Yoga, the body sculpting strength of weight training, the stretching of Pilates and the grace of ballet.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System® contains pulleys, weights and straps. Participants follow a series of continuous, fluid movements that gently stretch and strengthen the body. Unlike some exercise programs, which often focus on limited areas of the body, Gyrotonic training aims to increase coordination, strength, fitness, flexibility and balance for the whole body. More than 400 Gyrotonic studios are located across the country. For information, or to find a location near you, log on to http://www.gyrotonic.com.
