N.C. Regional Basketball Games Postponed Due To Weather
From our newspaper partner Gaston Gazette:Tuesday’s Western Regional semifinal basketball games in Greensboro have been postponed due to a winter storm that forced several school systems to dismiss early.The NCHSAA Eastern Regional basketball tournament games scheduled for Tuesday night in Greenville have also been postponed due to the inclement weather crossing the state.The Hunter Huss boys game against Lenoir Hibriten was rescheduled for 5:30 Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center.Tuesday’s other 3A boys game between Concord and West Rowan was moved to 5:30 Thursday at UNC Greensboro’s Fleming Gymnasium.Tuesday’s 2A girls Western Regional games were rescheduled for 5:30 Wednesday —one at each of the two regional sites.Tuesday’s postponements did not affect Wednesday’s regularly scheduled games. The men's games will be played at Minges Coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University, while the women's contests are set for J.H. Rose High School. In the west, teams will be going to Greensboro for the second consecutive year, with games at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center and Fleming Gymnasium at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, the city of Greenville and the Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau are the Eastern Regional primary sponsors. The Greensboro Sports Commission and Greensboro Area Convention and Visitors Bureau assist with the Western Regional.The winners from the regional tournament games will advance to the state championship contests. The 96th men's championships and the 39th renewal of the women's finals will be held at the Dean E. Smith Center on the University of North Carolina campus and Reynolds Coliseum at North Carolina State University, scheduled for March 13. The 1-A and 3-A finals will be at the Smith Center while the 2-A and 4-A championships are set for Reynolds Coliseum.On Monday, March 8, a press conference for the state championships will be held at the Radisson Research Triangle Park.
