CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Department of Sports Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center received a grant from Kohl's Department Stores and are putting it to use keeping students safe. They used that grant to develop software to test how hard players are getting hit on the field. Some experts said each Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools football team has two to five players with concussions each season. Now, they are installing that software in the form of sensors on football helmets. Some of West Mecklenburg High's players will get the sensors first. Those sensors send data to a sideline computer and is then monitored by an athletic trainer.
