Taste your way through Yadkin Valley with Winter Wine & Beer Passport

SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — If you’ve been looking for the perfect opportunity to learn more about the wines, brews and spirits of North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley, the Surry Winter Wine and Beer Passport is for you.

Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29, and continuing through March 22, 2020, this money-saving passport will provide 15 tastings at 10 wineries, four breweries and a distillery.

In addition to receiving a tasting at each location, passport holders will get discounts at more than two dozen restaurants, retail shops and overnight accommodations.

You’ll also receive a keepsake gift -- a wine and beer opener set in a decorative wine bottle-shaped display case -- at your first tasting.

Wineries participating in the passport program include Adagio Vineyards, Carolina Heritage, Elkin Creek, Grassy Creek, Roaring River, Round Peak, Shelton Vineyards, Slightly Askew, Stony Knoll and Yadkin Valley’s newest winery, Haze Gray Vineyards in Dobson.

Angry Troll and Skull Camp breweries are back from last year and joined by Thirsty Souls Community Brewing and White Elephant Beer Company, which are located across the street from each other in downtown Mount Airy.

Mayberry Spirits, also in Mount Airy, is the first distillery to participate in the 10-year-old program.

If you’d like to stay overnight on your visit, the following wineries offer discount lodging on-site: Carolina Heritage, Elkin Creek, Grassy Creek, Round Peak and Slightly Askew.

Discounts are also available at Hampton Inn & Suites in Dobson and Fairfield Inn & Suites in Elkin.

Jessica Roberts, tourism director for Surry County, said: “It’s a great time of year to visit because things slow down and you often get to meet the winemakers and brewmasters. Also, the passport is valid for nearly four months, which gives folks a chance to visit more than once.”

Early-bird pricing is $65 for individual passports and $99 for two people though Nov. 28. Regular pricing begins Nov. 29 with rates of $75 for individuals and $115 for two people. The estimated value of each passport is $250.
