Police officers spread Christmas cheer to children of fallen officers

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Police in New York had a special call over the weekend: to take four children who lost a parent in the line of duty Christmas shopping.

The group of children and police officers were part of the Badge of Honor Association's first "Children of B.O.H.A. Shop with a Cop."

The children were given gift cards to buy presents, but they decided to not buy themselves stuff, but pass the gifts to others who need it.

One girl decided to buy blankets for the Buffalo City Mission, WGRZ reported.

Brooke Dobson said the purchase was "so nobody has to stay out in the cold for Christmas, or at least they can get a blanket for Christmas and they don't have to feel left out."

Another girl bought body pillows for her friends.

Normally B.O.H.A. sends what they call are "silent checks" to families of fallen officers, WGRZ reported.

This year, they were with the children as they shopped.

"We know this is not going to bring their parents back, but this is something their parents would have done with them," the group's founder Justin Collins, said.

"This is something we try to do to make the children feel special, and to let them know that these kids are not forgotten and their parents' sacrifices are not forgotten," Collins added.
