Late night reacts to President Trump's press conference with his 'KGBFF,' Vladimir Putin

President Trump's press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland Monday gave late night hosts plenty of monologue material. During their time in front of the cameras, Trump accepted Putin's denial that Moscow meddled with the 2016 U.S. election. Twelve Russian military intelligence officers were charged Friday for targeting the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton presidential campaign.

"Late Night with Seth Meyers"

Seth Meyers thought the presser deserved "A Closer Look." The "Late Night" host described Trump's conduct in Helsinki as "one of the most surreal performances by a president in modern American history," noting, "however low your expectations were, Trump managed to go much lower."

According to Meyers, Trump "twisted himself in knots" to defend Putin.

"Can someone get Trump a glass of water? 'Cause he thirsty," Meyers joked. "It's only a matter of weeks before he 'Single White Females' Putin."

Meyers also mocked Trump for his behavior during last week's European trip, criticizing the commander in chief for "wandering aimlessly" in front of Queen Elizabeth II when they met Friday.

“The queen just disappeared behind Trump,” said Meyers. “It’s like a royal eclipse. The only thing missing was Trump staring directly at it."

"He’s so wide," Meyers went on, "he completely covered a monarch!”

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

Stephen Colbert kicked off his monologue by thanking his audience for their applause. "I need that tonight in ways I don't always need it, because today has shaken me to my core," he said. "And I don't think I need to point out, that at 54, there's not a lot of core left."

Colbert was dumbfounded by Trump’s declaration that he doesn’t “see any reason why it would be" Russia who interfered with the election. “You don’t see any reason? Do you own a mirror?" Colbert asked. "Because after throwing your intelligence community under the bus just then, you then threw it in reverse and turned them into road burger.”

“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”

"If your name is Vladimir Putin, then today was a very good day," Trevor Noah told viewers in a NSFW clip, "because today the president of the United States took your side in a fight between you and the United States."

Noah said he couldn't understand Trump's trust in Putin. "The man was a top KGB spy," the "Daily Show" host reasoned. "He'll steal the shirt off your back. Hell, he stole the shirt off his own back."

"On the list of people to never trust," Noah continued, "Putin is right between WebMD and the mom from 'Get Out.'"

As for Trump's performance, Noah simply said, "What we were expecting? This is what happens when you put a KGB agent up against a KFC agent."

"Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Jimmy Kimmel felt strongly that Monday could be the "strangest of all 542 bizarre days of Donald Trump's reign of error." The comedian said that after Trump "sided" with Russia, "Helsinki has frozen over."

Kimmel had a theory as to why Trump would've been so partial to “his KGBFF" Putin. Of their closed-door meeting, Kimmel wondered: “Is it possible Vladimir Putin brought a hypnotist to that meeting instead of a translator?”

The talk show host continued: “If you’re wondering whether or not Vladimir Putin has an incriminating video of Donald Trump, we now know, beyond a treasonable doubt, that he does.”
