Tokyo, Japan -- (Sports Network) - Rich Harden threw six strong innings, as the Oakland Athletics downed the Boston Red Sox, 5-1, in the finale of Major League Baseball's season-opening series at the Tokyo Dome. Harden (1-0) fanned nine -- one shy of tying a career-best -- and walked three, allowing three hits and one run. Emil Brown, who made a crucial base- running gaffe in Tuesday's opener, belted a three-run homer for the Athletics, who forged a split of the two games in Tokyo. Mike Sweeney was 2-for-4 with a run for Oakland. The A's head home to Oakland, where they will finish their exhibition slate with three games against the San Francisco Giants. Jon Lester (0-1) gave up four runs on five hits in four innings with four strikeouts and three walks to absorb the loss for Boston. Manny Ramirez's solo home run in the sixth provided the offense for the Red Sox, who will head to Los Angeles, where they will play three exhibition games against the Dodgers before traveling to Oakland, where the clubs will resume this four-game set on April 1. Mike Lowell went 2-for-4 for the Red Sox, who managed only five hits.
