Perdue Announces More Than 200 Jobs Coming To Charlotte

Posted: 4:45 pm EDT May 14, 2009Updated: 5:38 pm EDT May 14, 2009

Gov. Bev Perdue was in Charlotte on Thursday afternoon announcing new jobs coming to the city.

Siemens Energy said it's investing $50 million into its Charlotte operations and bringing 226 jobs. Those jobs will come over the next five years.

City and county leaders joined the governor in making the announcement because all three groups offered grants and incentives to get the jobs here.

"We have very good measures in place to make sure they do what they promise," Commissioner Jennifer Roberts said. "And we also run a model to look at the net value to the county."

Roberts said the net value from adding the jobs is $400,000 in extra tax money over the life of the grant.

Both the Charlotte City Council and Mecklenburg County Commission will vote on approving the grant money in the next few weeks.
