ACTION 9: Man Getting Billed Double For Mortgage

Julian Puckett is like many other homeowners whose mortgage has been sold to another company. But last December after the new mortgage company took over his loan, he discovered payments still being drafted by his original lender, GMAC.

"I knew that they weren't' suppose to be taking, why are they taking the money," he said.

He said GMAC Mortgage took more than $2,300 from his bank account over three months.

Puckett complained to GMAC Mortgage and tried to get the company to return the money. He was told there were no records of the money being taken out.

That's when Puckett went to his bank and filed an unauthorized withdrawal complaint. The bank returned all but $811 saying it could only go back 60 days. He then called GMAC again to demand his money, and again was told the same thing.

That's when Action 9 got in touch with GMAC Mortgage. It looked into Puckett's complaint. A spokesperson blamed the mix up on a human error and said they've taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

GMAC then sent Puckett his $811, plus $21 of interest and a $25 gift card.
