How long is the Nextel Cup Series season and what does it consist of?

Posted: 2:48 pm EDT September 19, 2007Updated: 2:50 pm EDT September 19, 2007

For many fans outside of NASCAR and for some of the drivers, the Nextel Cup season is probably considered too long. It starts in February and ends in November. Unlike other sports, its first race is the biggest of the year with the Daytona 500. The season consists of 36 races, starting with the Daytona 500 and ending with the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 18th. Following the Homestead race, the Nextel Cup Champion will be crowned. There are a number tracks that host multiple races during the year. One of those includes Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte. Lowes hosts the Nextel All-Star Challenge and the Coca-Cola 600 in May. It also hosts the Bank of America 500 in October. That race is five of ten in the Chase for the Championship.
