Cavs Sign First-Round Pick Hickson

Thursday, July 10, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers signed first-round pick J.J. Hickson to a contract, general manager Danny Ferry announced Thursday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A 6-foot-9, 242-pound forward out of North Carolina State, Hickson, the 19th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, led all ACC freshmen in scoring (14.8), rebounding (8.5) and double-doubles (10) while shooting a conference-best 59 percent from the floor.

Hickson, 19, set an ACC single-game freshman record with 23 rebounds against Clemson on February 16, and he scored in double figures in 25 of 31 career games, including seven games with 20 or more points.
