Pineville Police Ask For Help Solving Murder

Posted: 11:12 pm EST November 15, 2006Updated: 11:29 pm EST November 15, 2006

Pineville police are asking for help solving a murder. They say a friend found Richard Drost dead in his home on Monday, and it took two days to confirm Drost was murdered.

Monday morning, Jim Jones knocked on Drost's front door to pick his friend up for work. When no one answered, Jones went around back and found a sliding glass door cracked open about an inch.

He says, "I walked in and I looked in the bedroom, the bathroom and I didn't see him then I seen some blood on the floor and I followed the blood."

He followed the trail of blood into the family room and found Drost dead, lying on the floor, "I thought maybe he got drunk and fell and hit his head or something."

Police say they thought something was suspicious because Drost was only 43 and didn't have any apparent health issues. Late Wednesday afternoon, the medical examiner confirmed their suspicions when their investigation revealed Drost had been shot to death.

Right now Pineville police do not have any leads in this case. If you have any information or saw Richard Drost after Friday evening, call Pineville police at (704) 889-2231.
