CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 75-year-old woman is in the hospital after she was attacked by her neighbor’s pit bull early Wednesday.Police say a neighbor’s puppy was outside when his sire got loose around 10:30 a.m. The two ran across Drummond Avenue in the Plaza Midwood area and the older dog attacked Angela Coleman in her driveway.Coleman jumped in the back of her pickup truck, but the dog followed her and bit her arm, hand, ear and leg. She was able to fend him off and run to her front porch before the dogs’ owner called them away.Coleman’s grandson is upset by the incident.“They came in our yard where she was minding her business and just attacked her. I didn’t see nothing but blood,” Ro Jackson said. “When I came out I was wondering if they was going to be running around because I was going to do something to them, me personally.”Neighbor James Davis saw the whole thing from down the street and ran to help.“It’s one of them instances where you see something horrific on TV where they show a blur. That’s how I saw Miss Coleman – it was a blur,” he said.Coleman was taken to Carolinas Medical Center but she is expected to recover.Tasheka Morrales, the owner of the pit bulls, surrendered the dog, the puppy and another dog inside the house to Mecklenburg County Animal Control. All three have been euthanized and will be tested for rabies.Trevor Booth, Morrales’ nephew, said the dogs were usually friendly.“They got a lot of kids in the house. Pringles is friendly,” he said.Morrales will be cited for leash law violations and city licensing and rabies violations. Police say it’s the owner’s responsibility to keep pets under control.“Different breeds are well documented that they are more likely to attack than others, and I think it’s your responsibility to make sure they don’t harm others, but also that they don’t get hit by a car or anything like that,” said Sgt. Mike Hervey.
