CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Friday night, Eyewitness News learned who the two men are that police say robbed a bank in South Carolina, then led officers on a chase into Charlotte.

Officers arrested Jay Young and Johnathan Burke, III at the Arbor Trace apartments Friday afternoon.

They caught one of the suspects quickly, the other after nearly three hours of searching and waiting at the complex. They're both being held in Charlotte until they're extradicted to South Carolina to face charges there.

Choate Circle was closed at South Tryon Street from 2 p.m. until just before 5 p.m. while police and Special Weapons and Tactics team members searched the Arbor Trace apartments and tried to coax the man to give himself up.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the situation started when York County sheriff’s deputies started chasing two men into Charlotte early Friday afternoon. The duo were driving a red Dodge Neon, which police have determined was stolen, and crashed into a sport utility vehicle near the apartment complex before jumping from the car.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.

Once the robbers jumped and ran into the complex, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department got involved.

Authorities believe the men robbed a BB&T branch on Highway 160 in Fort Mill. They said a witness gave a great suspect description, which led them to the men.

One man was captured inside an apartment unit and taken into custody. The other ran into another apartment, but police were able to narrow down his location and apprehend him without any shots being fired.

During the search and standoff, two Charlotte Area Transportation System buses were put on standby in case they were needed to evacuate apartment residents.

Police made personal calls to people in the line of fire to warn them about the situation. The rest of the residents were sent an automated voice message to inform them.

Children who attend Lake Wylie Elementary School and live near Choate Circle had to be taken back to the school by their bus because of the road closure.
