Border Fence Ads To Be Put In Heavy Rotation In N.C.

Apparently, the latest battleground over the issue of illegal immigration is this guy's basement.

From his home computer, Demos Chrissos just put the finishing touches on a new ad campaign -- which will air in the Charlotte area -- and asks North Carolina's senators support the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border fence.

"It's certainly is a big border, a very big border," the ad says. "Call your senator, give 'em a message: Where's the fence?"

The president already signed a law to build 370 miles of fencing, but congress has yet to set aside money for it.

Should they? You can probably guess what Chrissos thinks.

"It's law. It's not an option. It's law, and they have to deliver on that promise," he said. "If they expect the American public to listen to anything else they promise.”

The U.S. House debates whether to "fund the fence" this week. Sources say the bill will include as much as $1 billion for the project.

Thing is, not everyone likes the idea. Opponents say it's a threat to the environment, the economy and U.S.-Mexican relations.

Even the secretary of homeland security says in many border areas he'd prefer cameras, sensors, and so-called virtual fencing to real fencing.

"One size does not fit all. The lay of the land is different. The solution has to vary location to location,” said Michael Chertoff, United States Secretary of Homeland Security.

The House debate is expected to start Tuesday with a vote expected Wednesday.
