Tuesday, July 3, 2007 – updated: 7:46 am EDT July 4, 2007

One person was killed and six others were injured in a crash that shut down all lanes of Interstate 77 southbound Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was Alice Mouzone, 53, from Thomasville, N.C. She died in the SUV that collided with a van Tuesday afternoon.

Our newspaper partner, the Herald in Rock Hill reported Mouzone was the only person wearing a seatbelt when the SUV rolled over. She died at the scene.

Three children were among the six people ejected from the SUV. Investigators said the vehicle only had five seatbelts and there were no child safety seats.

Conditions for a 3-year-old and 4-year-old hurt were not available Tuesday morning. However, a five-year-old girl was doing well at Carolinas Medical Center Tuesday morning.

Troopers said a sport utility vehicle and a red van collided around 4 p.m. Two victims had to be airlifted from the scene while three others were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The crash finally cleared four hours later at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-77 near Carowinds Boulevard.

The accident remains under investigation.
