SALISBURY, N.C. -- A Cabarrus County commissioner pled guilty to prostitution charges Wednesday morning.Rowan County authorities arrested Coy Privette, 74, in July on six misdemeanor counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. They said he rented rooms at two Salisbury motels and paid for sexual acts with 32-year-old Tiffany Denise Summers, who was charged with six counts of prostitution.Investigators said Privette paid Summers with a signed check, and Kannapolis police got involved when Privette accused Summers of fraud when she tried to cash those checks at a bank.Privette pled guilty to all six charges against him. He was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and ordered to undergo psychological testing.Rowan County District Attorney Bill Kenerly said Privette can clear his criminal record if he completes 48 hours of community service. Kenerly said he offered the deal, part of a program for first-time offenders, because he was more concerned about "making sure the behavior stopped" than making sure Privette had a criminal record.Privette would only say “good morning” to the media, but he did hand out a statement that thanked his family and friends. It also read, “I know that I have hurt and disappointed a lot of people and I am truly sorry. It is my hope that people can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”He also stated he is seeking professional help and undergoing spiritual reflection. He said he hopes to gain back the trust he lost.Ginger Kerr, one of Privette’s neighbors, said it’s a sad situation.“If you do dirt, you get dirt. I feel bad for his family, but I also feel God will deal with him in his own way,” she said. The commissioner from Kannapolis is a retired Baptist minister and former state legislator. After the charges were filed, he resigned as president of the Christian Action League and stepped down from his leadership post with the State Baptist Convention of North Carolina.Privette has not resigned his position as a commissioner.RELATED STORY: Cabarrus County Commissioner Accused Of Soliciting A Prostitute
