ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- A trashy problem in Rowan County was cleaned up when trucks from Charlotte rolled over to help on Thursday.A junk removal company offered to come out and help the 86-year-old owner of a piece of property that had become a dumping ground for locals. Rowan County leaders said Raymond Everhardt was responsible for dealing with the tons of garbageEverhardt comes out every day and sits in his pickup truck on the property, trying to stop people from dumping trash. He said they just litter at night. The owners of 1-800-Got-Junk? in Charlotte got involved after seeing Everhardt’s story on Eyewitness News and hearing from viewers who also wanted to help the elderly man.Workers like Kevin Tietsort said the work was hard, but the payoff is knowing that the life of someone in need has been touched."Part of the job is rewarding every day, but especially something like this when someone is in true need," he said.In all more than six truck-loads of junk were hauled away."I appreciate it. I thank them for it," said Everhardt.Although the landowner fears they’ll have to come back in a year or two, Tietsort hopes people learn a lesson."Maybe this is a wake up call. When people leave their stuff, someone has to pick it up. It's not going to go away," he said. The company did not charge for their services and the Rowan County landfill waived the fee to accept the trash.RELATED STORY: Elderly Man’s Property Becomes Dumping Grounds In Rowan County
