Friday, August 31, 2007
CONCORD, N.C. -- The leader of the North Carolina Republican Party is calling for one of its own to resign as a county commissioner. Cabarrus County Commissioner Coy Privette pleaded guilty last week to charges related to prostitution. State GOP chief Linda Daves says she has sent a letter to Privette that urges him to step down immediately. Daves says the letter calls Privette "dishonored and disgraced." Privette's fellow commissioners -- all Republicans -- also have demanded that he resign. So have Republican Party officials in Cabarrus County.RELATED STORY: GOP Leaders Seeking Cabarrus County Commissioner's Resignation RELATED STORY: Cabarrus County Commissioner Pleads Guilty To Prostitution Charges RELATED STORY: Cabarrus County Commissioner Accused Of Soliciting A Prostitute Privette has refused and says he won't comment on Daves' letter until he sees it.
