GOP Chief Says Privette Should Resign From Commission

Friday, August 31, 2007

The leader of the North Carolina Republican Party is calling for one of its own to resign as a county commissioner.

Cabarrus County Commissioner Coy Privette pleaded guilty last week to charges related to prostitution.

State GOP chief Linda Daves says she has sent a letter to Privette that urges him to step down immediately. Daves says the letter calls Privette "dishonored and disgraced."

Privette's fellow commissioners -- all Republicans -- also have demanded that he resign. So have Republican Party officials in Cabarrus County.
