Former CMS Teacher Faces Charges Involving Sex With A Student

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 – updated: 6:20 pm EDT September 4, 2007

A long-time teacher who’s taught in schools across the area is accused of having sex with a student.

Jerry Peter Seale, 62, of Rock Hill most recently taught biology at Derita Alternative School on West Sugar Creek Road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said he resigned on Friday.

Police said Seale turned himself in Tuesday morning to face four counts of felony sex offense involving a student. The police report does not go into detail about the accusations against Seale, but it does state the victim is a 16-year-old female student who alleges that she had sex with Seale four times between February 1 and July 22.

  • A CMS spokesperson said Seale has not taught this school year, which began just over a week ago. He previously taught at Providence High, Olympic High and Wilson Middle schools.

Seale also once taught at Chester High School, but school officials would not comment on why he left. He has no criminal record, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Seale is being held on $40,000 bond. He’ll make his first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon.
