CONCORD, NC -- The politician who pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting prostitution is stepping down.Cabarrus County commissioner Coy Privette said at Monday night's commission meeting he plans to resign. Prosecutors say he paid a woman for sex six times earlier this year.But... Privette says his decision has nothing to do with the charges. He told Channel 9 Eyewitness News he finally landed a spot in the Piedmont Crossing retirement community In Thomasville, NC.Privette said he'd "still be right here, yes sir-ee" if the unit hadn't become available.Either way, his critics got what they wanted. About a dozen protested before monday's meeting demanding Privette step down. Tracy Rhodes said, "Be humble, admit you did it wrong, and step out. You don't have the right to represent this county now. You don't have the right to represent the people of this county. We don't agree with his ethics...or the things he's done."Privette's supporters taunted the protestors. One supporter, Ric Starnes, said, "He's admitted his mistake. He's admitted he was wrong. I don't agree with what he did. No one does, but he's asked for forgiveness and I think that he should press on."Privette isn't sure when his last day will be.RELATED STORY: GOP Chief Says Privette Should Resign From Commission RELATED STORY: GOP Leaders Seeking Cabarrus County Commissioner's Resignation RELATED STORY: Cabarrus County Commissioner Pleads Guilty To Prostitution Charges RELATED STORY: Cabarrus County Commissioner Accused Of Soliciting A Prostitute
