Two Charlotte Players Benched For High School Playoff Game In Eligibility Crackdown

Two players had to sit out of the big football game Friday night between Independence and West Charlotte. A player on each team was ruled ineligible by state standards.

The two are just the latest in a series of athletes to be ruled ineligible within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Fans in the stands say they don't understand why the eligibility problems weren't discovered before playoffs.

"Someone had to know that these players were ineligible before now," said fan Phyllis Taylor.

C.M.S. is promising to unveil a new plan in the coming weeks to deal with the recent eligibility problems.

Independence won the game 10-8.
