Black Leader Doesn't Want Sharpton Involved In Sheriff Controversy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local African-American politician told Eyewitness News he may not want civil rights leader Al Sharpton weighing in on Mecklenburg County's sheriff controversy.County Commissioner Norman Mitchell said the situation is embarrassing, and he isn't sure national attention would help.He told Eyewitness News he sent Sharpton a message saying he'd like to speak with him before he decides whether to get involved.Other local African-American leaders are asking Sharpton to come to Charlotte on behalf of Sheriff-Elect Nick Mackey.
