CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police said a man connected to a northwest Charlotte daycare is now charged with sex crimes.

A search warrant was issued for Timothy Bridges’ home on Wynborough Lane in October, but it took investigators months to go through all the evidence. Bridges turned himself in Monday on charges of indecent liberties, using a minor to assist in an obscenity, disseminating obscenity to a child and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Police said Bridges, 55, was a collector of child pornography.

“He was going on the Internet, on different sites, collecting all this pornography,” said Detective Todd Walther.

Investigators found pornographic images of children on a computer at Bridges’ home, where his wife used to care for children.

Police said she ran an in-home daycare and, according to court documents, a 5-year-old girl under her care said Bridges touched her, showed her pornography and took inappropriate pictures of her.

“There would be time when (his wife) would be home but occupied,” Walther said.

Detectives said Bridges' wife didn't know of the crime and has since stopped caring for children. Police said while there were three or four children at the daycare at the time, they believe only one child was molested.

The search warrant has a list of computer equipment, including roughly 150 floppy discs and CDs and camera equipment, taken from Bridges' home. Investigators said it took four months of meticulously going through the files before they could arrest Bridges.

Investigators said that in November Bridges moved out of the northwest Charlotte home where the crimes allegedly happened.

He is being held on $80,000 secured bond at the Mecklenburg County jail.
