ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Sunday York County Sheriff's Office officials identifed a suspect in a violent armed robbery at a check cashing store. Police also believe that this man may be connected to two other recent robberies in York County.Warrants have been issued for 20-year-old Phillip Fleming Watts, Jr. for Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill. Police said Watts robbed Cash on the Spot on Cherry Rd. in Rock Hill on Thursday. A customer, 42-year-old Ida Lord of Rock Hill, was shot twice during the incident. Lord remains in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center, said a nursing supervisor. The York County Sheriff's Office is also working with the Fort Mill and Rock Hill Police departments on similarities between the Cash on the Spot case and two other high profile robberies, all within 17 days of each other.A week ago, former Fort Mill Mayor Charlie Powers and store clerk Yen Nguyen were shot during an armed robbery at John Boy's Valero in Fort Mill. Powers, who was shot in the face, is now recovering at home. Nguyen's condition was not available Sunday evening. And on Jan. 28, 40-year-old Ping Chen was shot twice during a robbery at Rock Hill's Saltwater Seafood Market as she attempted to cover her face.So far, police have said in all three cases at least one person was shot, and both Nguyen and Chen complied with the robber's demands before getting shot. Police have also told us that the shooter in each case was a black male, wearing dark colored clothing and either a toboggan or a bandana. But right now, warrants have only been issued for Watts' possible involvement with the Check on the Spot robbery, though police said more warrants are pending.According to police Watts is a student at Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill. He is 6'0", 175 lbs with a pointed goatee, and is known to wear a diamond stud earing in his left ear. People that know him have told police that he goes by the nickname "Philly."Police also said that Watts was paroled to York County from the South Carolina Department of Corrections on Sept. 14, 2007 for attempted armed robbery. And Watts has family in both Rock Hill and Fort Mill, police said.Anyone with information should call the York County Sheriff's Office at 628-3059 or York County CrimeStoppers at 1-877-409-4321.
