Developers Plan New "North End" Neighborhood

Posted: 11:03 pm EST March 6, 2008Updated: 8:33 am EST March 7, 2008

One of the few undeveloped areas around Uptown Charlotte is about to see a lot more activity.

Developers are now calling the neighborhood along Statesville Avenue the "North End." The announcement came during a meeting of realtors, neighbors, and developers Thursday night.

A condominium complex is already underway. After that, industrial plants and public housing will be replaced by new projects.

"You're going to have everything, from condos, town homes, single family, retail," said realtor Fred Benardella.

Homeowners in the neighborhood hope new development will increase their investment.

"I'm just excited. Property value increase, that's my first instinct," said Francine Dampha.

The condominiums will start selling around $160,000. They'll be completed in a year.
