CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Eyewitness News has learned that the family of a 17-year-old shot by police with a Taser gun has a hired a high-profile attorney.

Darryl Turner died shortly after he was hit. It happened Thursday at the Food Lion on Prosperity Church Road where Turner worked.

Police were called to the scene during a heated argument between Turner and his boss.

CMPD has launched an internal investigation into what happened, and now the family is conducting its own investigation.

"There is a certain protocol that is required when a police officer uses a taser. And in a case like this, obviously, we're going to be interested in seeing if that protocol was followed," said attorney Ken Harris.

Harris said it’s too early to say whether a lawsuit will be filed against the police department.
