Teen Killed In Indian Trail Shooting

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- A 15-year-old died shortly after a shooting at an Indian Trail mobile home Sunday night.Jonathan Russell was visiting friends at the Rosetta Drive home when the shooting happened shortly after someone knocked on the door around 9:20 p.m.Police said six people were inside the home at the time, including a 2-year-old child."Witnesses said the man knocked on the door, and when they went to answer it, the man stepped back and the incident ended with shots being fired," said Chief Deputy Ben Bailey of the Union County Sheriff’s Office.Investigators said the shots came from behind a vehicle parked next to the mobile home. Witnesses said they saw three men flee on foot toward Wesley Chapel Stouts Road.Tamara Hartis, 36, was also shot in the head, but her injury is not life-threatening. Hartis lives at the mobile home.Police said Russell lived with his mother on Old Monroe Road and attended Sun Valley Middle School. Investigators believe he was struck by a bullet that went through the wall of the mobile home.Deputies said they do not believe the shooting was random but they would not elaborate on a motive. They are looking for a small white car that was seen traveling toward U.S. Highway 74. It’s believed to be a 1995 to1997 year model white Nissan Altima.Anyone with information is asked to call Union County Crime Stoppers at (704) 283-5600.
