Emergency Crews Learn Layouts Of New Cabarrus Buildings

Sunday, April 13, 2008 – updated: 4:00 pm EDT April 13, 2008

Cabarrus County Task Force 21 trained at the NC Research Campus to learn the ins and outs of the new buildings in the area.

Task Force 21 is made up of personnel from the Kannapolis Police Department, Concord Police Department, Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, the Kannapolis Fire Department, the Concord Fire Department, the Harrisburg Fire Department, Cabarrus EMS, and the Cabarrus Rescue Squad.

This training familiarized first responders to some of the new structures located within the area. Crews spent the morning going through exercises and different scenarios that they may face when buildings are up and running.

Chief Woody Chavis with the Kannapolis Police Department said it's important to know the layout of buildings beforehand, instead of during a crucial time. "There's certain things that you take for granted until you train together and you see little things where something just doesn't quite work. This is one of those times when you iron bugs out," said Chief Chavis.

While crews worked on their training, North Main Street between 1st Street and North Loop Road were closed in Kannapolis.
