CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man with a long criminal history stands accused of murdering a 92-year-old woman in Charlotte.Gordon Franklin McMullen, 47, of Charlotte was back behind bars in the Mecklenburg County Jail Monday. He is accused of stabbing 92-year-old Mildred Clontz to death earlier this month.Police said he is not a stranger to crime and is a career criminal.Eyewitness News delved into McMullen's criminal history and learned he began committing crimes in 1980 at the age of 20, where he was charged with credit card theft.More criminal charges followed in 1982 for larceny and in 1983 for counterfeiting. Police said McMullen was busy in 1985, charged with speeding from police, larceny and more counterfeiting. In 1987, he graduated to armed robbery; he was convicted on three robbery charges and deemed a habitual felon.Last week, police charged McMullen with Clontz's murder. He also faces kidnapping, breaking and entering and robbery in that case.Police initially waited to identify McMullen because they were looking at him for other recent crimes. Police said they completed identification lineups with other potential victims, and they felt comfortable releasing his identity. Investigators said it is too early to charge him with any other crimes.RELATED STORY: Name Of Suspect In 92-Year-Old’s Slaying Still Not Released RELATED STORY: Suspect Arrested In Murder Of 92-Year-Old Charlotte Woman RELATED STORY: Grandson Fears That 92-Year-Old's Killer May Strike Again In Charlotte RELATED STORY: 92-Year-Old Fatally Stabbed During Southeast Charlotte Home Invasion
