Motorcycle Rider Dies After Hitting Deer

CATAWBA CO., N.C. -- A man on a motorcycle died in Catawba County Friday night, after he hit a deer.Police said 54-year-old Jerry Bumgarner of Claremont was riding a 2005 Yamaha when he hit the deer.Police said it happened on B. & B. Road near Island Ford Road just outside of Claremont near Bumgarner's home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The deer had to be destroyed by first responders.
