1 Person Dead, 4 Hurt In Standoff Shooting Near Lexington

POSTED: 10:28 am EDT May 8, 2008

Davidson County sheriff's deputies say a suspect was killed and four people wounded in a shooting near Lexington.

WSJS-AM in Winston-Salem reported deputies were called to the home shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A news release from the sheriff's department said deputies heard several gunshots. Sheriff David Grice says one man had escaped with a gunshot wound.

The Sheriff's Response Team negotiated with the suspect and a 17-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman were released, each after being wounded.

Before deputies entered the home to rescue a 13-year-old boy, the 60-year-old man tried to leave and was shot by deputies. The boy was also wounded.

None of the names have been released.

A sheriff's spokesman did not immediately return a phone message Thursday.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
