Lincoln County Teacher Accused Of Hitting Student With Metal Bar

LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- A Lincoln County teacher is accused of beating a 14-year-old student with a metal pipe.Lisa Jones, 51, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She teaches math at Asbury School in Lincolnton.Lincolnton police said on April 24 a student found an 18-inch pipe during lunch and brought it into his classroom."He stated it was for a project to repair a table," said Lincolnton Police Detective Jason Munday.But when Jones saw the pipe, she grabbed it from him, police said.“She got the pipe from him and he stated she hit him with it," Munday said.The teen told police Jones hit him three times on his shoulder and twice on his head.The teen's mom referred all Eyewitness News questions to their attorney. That attorney has not returned calls.Eyewitness News went to Jones' Lincolnton home, but no one came to the door.Jones has been with the Lincoln County school district since 1982. For the past 10 years, she's taught at Asbury. Asbury is an alternative school for students with behavioral or disciplinary problems. It has only 50 students and often only five to 10 students per class.Jones is on paid administrative leave and will be in court on May 21.
