Struggling Economy Doesn't Appear To Keep Race Fans Away

UPDATED: 2:19 pm EDT May 16, 2008

Despite initial concerns that the struggling economy would keep race fans away from the track this year, Lowe’s Motor Speedway officials said there’s a good turnout for this weekend’s races.

LMS spokesman Scott Cooper said sales are strong for the All-Star weekend, with includes All-Star qualifying, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. He said ticket sales have even picked up in the last week.

Campers said high fuel prices made the trip to Concord expensive, but they’re making cuts in other parts of their lives in order to afford it.

Ticket sales for the Coca Cola 600, which is next week, remain down. LMS is offering a number of specials to try to draw fans.
