Race Fans Pack Streets As Race Weekend Begins

CONCORD, N.C. -- Streets will be packed out in Concord, as race fans make their way into the city for All-Star Race Weekend.The North Carolina Highway Patrol has 200 trooopers directing traffic around the intersections for fans coming to Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Trooper Kevin Hennelly believes everything will run smoothly for the weekend. “Troopers are stationed all along the area to make traffic run efficiently and smoothly. We don’t anticipate any problems,” said Hennelly.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is also helping to manage road congestion as thousands of race fans come into Cabarrus County over the next two weeks.Events at Lowe's Motor Speedway will cause heavier traffic on I-85, U.S. 29, N.C. 49, and Bruton Smith Boulevard (formerly Speedway Boulevard) through the Memorial Day holiday weekend.NCDOT will utilize overhead message signs and portable message signs to alert motorists of problem areas, along with suggested alternate routes around incidents and congestion.
