CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A police search warrant says blood was found inside a Charlotte insurance agency that belongs to a man charged in the death of a state insurance investigator. The warrant released Tuesday said 40-year-old Michael Howell of Indian Trail initially allowed Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to search his Dilworth Insurance Agency. But after they discovered blood in two spots on the carpet and a computer cord, Howell stopped them and said they'd have to come back with a warrant.Once they obtained a search warrant, they seized carpet, blood evidence, pornographic material, customer files, a vacuum cleaner and paneling.Eyewitness News was there as investigators with the North Carolina Department of Insurance piled box after box from Michael Howell’s Dilworth Insurance agency into the back of a U-haul truck Tuesday evening. They also loaded file cabinets and other materials but wouldn't tell us what or why.Prosecutors have charged Howell with first-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Sallie Rohrbach. Howell said he last saw Rohrbach around 4 p.m. May 14, the day she disappeared. Rohrbach was an investigator with the state Department of Insurance. She was reviewing the books at Howell's business when she disappeared two weeks ago. Her body was found last week in a wooded area near Fort Mill, S.C., about 20 miles south of Charlotte.A preliminary autopsy did not reveal how Rohrbach was killed.
