Rafter Rescued In Thunderstorms, Lightning Hits 6 Buildings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Emergency crews rescued a rafter stuck on the Catawba River in the middle of thunderstorms Thursday night.Charlotte firefighters sent their Swift Water Rescue team to the Brookshire Boulevard Bridge. Officials said David Garris went out on a raft, but he got stuck in the storm."Watch the weather, keep up, track the weather before you go out on the river," Garris said.Paramedics checked out Garris, and he was fine to go home.
Lightning bolts struck at least six buildings in Charlotte according to firefighters Thursday night in the round of thunderstorms. However, the lightning strikes did not start any fires.
In Gaston County, the storm knocked out power to about 350 homes, according to Duke Energy around 11 p.m. Trees also fell during the storm on Country Club Road. Police shut down the road Thursday night during the clean-up.
