LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- Deputies said a man out for a pre-dawn ride on his motorcycle led them on a nearly 20-mile chase through Lincoln County early Thursday. They said Jeffrey Loomis of Sherills Ford pushed his Honda motorcycle to speeds of up to 100 miles per hour right past homes in speed zones of 35, 45, and 55 miles per hour.Kemp Caldwell said at about 4:30 a.m. he heard the bike zoom past his home on Asbury Church Road. He said what he heard was, "a loud, fast noise."He said he went to the front door of his home when he heard the motorcycle and the police siren, but he didn't see them. "I come open my door, and zip, they were gone," he said. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said a deputy saw 47-year-old Loomis speeding on Highway 150 at the intersection of McCorkle Road. He said Loomis didn't stop for the officer’s lights.According to arrest warrants, the officer followed Loomis west on Highway 150, then east on Highway 27, north on Asbury Church Road, east on King Wilkinson Road, south on Beth Haven Road and west on Highway 73. There the chase ended when Loomis ran off the road at the intersection with Micah Lane, police said. Loomis was arrested after a foot chase.Loomis is charged with fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger and speeding. He has been charged with speeding in five different North Carolina counties and twice in Lincoln County. According to court records, Loomis was clocked at 75 in a 45-mile-per-hour speed zone in Iredell County. That charge came in late April of 2006, about three weeks after he was clocked going 20 miles over the speed limit in Lincoln County. Both charges were reduced. After hearing about the prior charges, Caldwell said, "I just hope that don't occur no more."
