Gas Can Explodes In Girl's Hands

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- A 10-year-old local girl is recovering with third-degree burns after a gas can exploded in her hands.Jasmine Ballew of Kings Mountain poured gasoline over a smoldering trash fire on Thursday. The flames quickly spread to the can she was holding.Her family said she was unsupervised at the time."She was starting to go in shock. She was shaking, and everything we were trying to keep from happening," said her uncle Richard Ballew.Jasmine was staying at his home Thursday. Emergency crews were on scene within eight minutes."She was burned over most of her chest area, arms, her right leg, also on her face," said E.M.T. James LedbetterJasmine was in the burn unit at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Friday night.Her uncle told Eyewitness News doctors are keeping her heavily medicated, and covered in bandages for the next few days.
