ROCK HIL, S.C. -- For the second time in a week, some local farmers are worried about their safety, and their customer's safety at a Rock Hill farmer's market. The market is in a city parking lot downtown at Saluda and Main Streets.67-year-old farmer J.B. Wood was robbed there last week, then the same man came back again, according to farmers who also sell produce there."if this keeps up it's gonna drive our customers away," said fellow farmer Joe Laurendeau. He said Wood usually arrives first, before 7:00 A.M., and sets his table up. Early Saturday, Wood called police, telling them he saw the man who robbed him a week before, riding by several times on a bike.In that case last Monday, wood said a young black man grabbed him from behind in the parking lot and took $350 from his pocket. He told police the suspect had been posing as a customer, looking at vegetables before the attack. On Saturday, when Wood reported seeing the man again, police made out a report on a suspicious person, but didn't find him. A few minutes later wood started having chest pains. He was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Medical Center.Another farmer, Tom Hays, saw Wood as paramedics arrived to treat him. "He was in the cab of his truck laying down, and it looked like a panic attack, but we know it was a lot worse as it turned out," Hays said.Family members said Wood suffered a heart attack. It's not clear if the attack was brought on by Wood's shock over seeing the man who robbed him.Shannon turner is one of a half-dozen people who sets up a table a few days a week to sell produce. She said it's getting scary to be out there."I won't come out here by myself," she said. Hays said it's time the farmers talk about arriving and leaving at the same time so no one is left alone, and put at risk. According to family members, Wood is still recovering in the hospital.
