CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association said Wednesday another Charlotte-Mecklenburg school has been under investigation for eligibility violations -- this time for allegedly recruiting players.

Sources told Eyewitness News that a volunteer from East Mecklenburg High School's football program is the focus of the investigation.

According to the sources, that volunteer has previously worked with Independence and West Charlotte, two high schools that have recently been in trouble for their own athletic eligibility violations.

Two West Charlotte coaches were suspended for helping players use fake addresses so they could play for the team. At Independence, a six-month investigation revealed coaches did not recruit players, but there were some issues.

Earlier this year, half a dozen football players at Independence were kicked off the team for eligibility violations. Independence's season stands, while West Charlotte had to forfeit all their games.

South Mecklenburg High School also had to forfeit all their games because a player was deemed ineligible and a staff member knew about it.

East Mecklenburg's junior varsity and varsity football teams could now be forced to forfeit last year's seasons.

There’s no word if any coaches or staff members will be in trouble or how many players were involved.
