CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- David Boland was sentenced in federal court Monday -- two years after police and federal agents raided his Charlotte home and uncovered the biggest stash of child pornography they said they've ever seen. “Thousands of CD-roms, hundreds and hundreds of VHS tapes, 2,800 floppy disks -- all containing images of children,” said U.S. Postal Inspector Lisa Holman.Holman said those children were being sexually abused in every way imaginable, and Boland told investigators he started his collection just months after getting out of prison on another child pornography conviction.Investigators said Boland called his collection “art,” but it contained hundreds of thousands of pictures of infants, toddlers and little girls all of them being raped, some of them tied up and crying as it happened. Then, investigators said, they found something else in Boland's collection that shocked them in a different way. They found dozens of videotapes that investigators said were close-up shots of little girls' private areas, taken all across Charlotte. The videos show gyms, Carowinds and area parks. One tape is labeled “Freedom Park girl.”“It's a little girl in Freedom Park getting her face painted while the camera is focusing on the child, on her face, on her body, and then follows her through the crowd at Freedom Park,” Holman said.Although the videos aren't recent, parent Holly Flick, who was in Freedom Park on Monday afternoon, said it's still enough to make her pay closer attention.“It would raise a red flag, especially if (someone with a camera) were alone, and just seeing what they were pointing the camera at,” she said.On Monday, the judge called Boland's crimes horrific. After his 19 and a half-year sentence, Boland will remain on supervised probation for life.
